Christmas Day Thoughts to Consider
We associate so many symbols with Christmas—both spiritual and secular. From the ridiculous to the sublime. From a magical North Pole to the modest rural town of Bethlehem. From eight reindeer to three Wise Men. And from mountains of breakable toy gifts to the single, eternal, perfect gift of salvation.
One association we rarely make is the association with Easter. Birth and death. New physical life and new spiritual life. The cry of a helpless baby and the shout of a conquering King. Yet the whole purpose of the birth of the Christ-child was to provide the perfect sacrifice to purchase our salvation.
On this special day, my gift to you is a quote from the late author, Jennifer Kennedy Dean, from her book, Pursuing the Christ. This powerful quote always reminds me of the connection between Christmas and Easter. I hope it touches your heart as it did mine!
“Incarnate Word…You came. Softly. Barely a ripple in the course of mankind’s doings, yet a rip that reverberated through the heavenly realms and changed the balance of power for all eternity. With a battle cry that sounded to earthly ears like a newborn baby’s whimper, You set in motion my redemption. The sound heard in the heavens that first CHRISTmas moment was a victory shout that rattled the enemy’s forces and ensured their defeat.”
Merry Christmas!
